(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College softball team (21-1, 15-1 in ACCAC) got back on track on Tuesday as it hosted Mesa Community College (2-14, 2-14) at the West Campus Aztec Softball Field.
Freshman Jiselle Nunez (Tucson Magnet HS) was a flawless 5 for 5 with seven RBIs, five runs scored and three walks. Sophomore Talia Martin (Mountain View HS) closed out the day going 5 for 6 with five RBIs, four runs scored and two walks. Freshman Belen Camacho (Pueblo HS) was 3 for 5 with five RBIs and three runs and freshman Taiya Teixeira (Salpointe Catholic HS) closed out the day 4 for 6 with four RBIs and four runs. Sophomores Jessica Thompson (Tanque Verde HS) and Yanelyssia Chavez (Salpointe Catholic HS) picked up the wins in the circle.
Game 1: (5) Pima Aztecs 18, Mesa Thunderbirds 5 (5 innings)
The Aztecs scored 15 runs in the first two innings to earn the run rule victory as Nunez was unstoppable hitting three home runs in the game.
The Aztecs scored seven runs in the 1st inning. Martin led off the inning with a triple and was driven in on an RBI double by sophomore Aubrey Marx (Cienega HS). Nunez hit her first homer off a two-run shot to left field as Pima took a 3-1 lead. Teixeira hit an RBI single to plate freshman Julissa Lopez (Tucson Magnet HS). Martin capped off the inning with a two-run RBI double bringing around freshman Clarissa Figueroa (Mountain View HS) and Teixeira to make it 7-1.
The Aztecs scored eight runs in the 2nd inning as Teixeira and Martin hit back-to-back RBI hits that drove in two runs each. Teixeira’s single scored Lopez and sophomore Cheyanne Ortiz (Tucson Magnet HS) and Martin’s double scored Figueroa and Teixeira. Marx reached base after getting hit by a pitch and Nunez followed it with a three-run homer to make it 15-1.
Nunez blasted her third home run of the contest in the 4th inning on a lead-off shot to right field. She finished 4 for 4 with six RBIs and four runs scored. Martin was also perfect at the plate as she went 3 for 3 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Teixeira closed it out going 2 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs. Camacho went 1 for 2 with two RBIs as she hit a two-run RBI single bringing in sophomore Natalya Rivera (Sunnyside HS) and sophomore Mari Asher (Canyon del Oro HS).
Thompson got the win after she pitched three innings, giving up one run (one earned) on two hits with six strikeouts and two walks.

Game 2: (5) Pima Aztecs 18, Mesa Thunderbirds 2 (5 innings)
The offense took over early as Pima scored runs in each inning for their second run-rule victory.
The Thunderbirds scored two runs in the 1st inning, but the Aztecs rallied off seven runs in the bottom of the 1st to take the lead for good. Figueroa hit a two-run RBI single to score Camacho and freshman Amerika Lopez-Bedoy (Sunnyside HS) as well as Marx, Nunez, Teixeira and Martin all had RBI hits in the inning to make it 7-2.
Camacho had RBI hits in the 2nd and 3rd innings and a bases loaded walk in the 4th as she finished 2 for 3 with three RBIs and three runs.
Lopez-Bedoy and sophomore Mari Asher (Canyon del Oro HS) each drove in two runs with their hits. Lopez-Bedoy’s double brought in freshman Legend Otero and Nunez. Asher’s triple followed, which scored Camacho and Lopez-Bedoy.
Martin, Marx and Teixeira each went 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored while Asher and Figueroa each had two RBIs and a run.
Lopez-Bedoy was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs.
Chavez picked up the win and improved to 2-0 on the season.

The Aztecs will host a non-conference doubleheader on Friday against Miles Community College. First game will start at 10:00 a.m.
