Men’s Volleyball Drops Contest to No. 10 Benedictine

(Mesa, AZ)  The Park University Gilbert men’s volleyball team continued its gauntlet of ranked opposition taking on the No. 10 Benedictine Mesa Redhawks tonight at Arizona Athletic Grounds. The Buccaneers fell 3-1 (22-25, 21-25, 25-11, 15-25) to fall to 1-10 on the season overall and 0-3 in the GSAC. This was the Bucs fourth consecutive match against a ranked opponent.

The Bucs continue to play well and give their ranked opponents a test but have not been able to get over the hump.

With its win in the third set Park Gilbert won its first against Benedictine Mesa since the 2020-21 season.

The Buccaneers hit .142 for the match with 37 kills. The Bucs had fewer attack errors than the Redhawks (21 to 26) and more aces (4-3).

Graduate Xander Thesz led the way with 17 kills and eight digs, followed by freshman Dominic Smith with 10 and sophomore Jonah Baich with five.

Senior setter Jake Burdick had his second 30 assist match of the season and libero Zac York had 10 digs.

The Bucs have a week off before traveling to Surprise Ariz., to take on OUAZ next Wednesday, March 19 at 6 p.m.
