How it Happened
The first quarter was the highest-scoring frame of the game. Each team traded goals to open the game, but ASU settled down and let Lydia Oldknow get hot. Her three early goals fueled a four-goal run, and ASU led 8-3 after one. Teagan Ng’s first goal of the game came in the first and marked her 100th career point.
In the second quarter, both teams combined for only seven goals, with ASU netting five in the quarter. ASU scored the last three goals to end the quarter to give them a comfortable 13-5 lead at the half.
Despite only scoring one goal in the third quarter, ASU put on a defensive clinic. Goalkeeper Katie Vahleallowed just one goal in the third quarter and needed just three saves to do so. Only four shots on goal were allowed to the Paladins in the frame.
Each ASU backup goalie saw time in net in the fourth quarter, in which Furman scored their most goals in a quarter all game after netting five. The deficit proved to be too much for the Paladins, as the Sun Devils cruised by with an 18-11 win at home, good for their fifth straight home win this season.
