Gym Devils Place Third at Second Quad Meet of the Weekend

(Berkeley, CA)  Closing out the regular season before Big 12 Championships next week, Sun Devil Gymnastics took third place at the Haas Quad Meet 2 on Sunday afternoon with a 196.250, falling to two ranked teams and beating San Jose State. 

Notable Stats

  • Arizona State (10-10) beat San Jose State (7-13-1) while coming up short to former Pac-12 opponents Cal (24-2) and Stanford (13-4).
  • ASU’s 196.250 will knock off a lower road score on the team’s NQS. With Friday’s season high of 196.800, Arizona State’s NQS is now 196.310.
  • The team notched over a 49.000 on both vault and floor, making it two weeks in a row surpassing that mark for the squad.
  • Graduate Emily White earned a 9.925 on floor, her seventh score of 9.9 or better on that event and 10th of the season. She placed second on floor. In the all-around, she scored a 39.100.
  • Also in the all-around was junior Kimberly Smith, scoring a 39.300. She has reached at least that mark in the all-around three of the last four meets.
  • Graduate Sarah Clark notched a 9.850 on beam, her ninth score in a row of at least a 9.800 on that event. She added a solid 9.850 on bars as well.
  • In her third meet back, sophomore Halle Gregoire had a solid outing. She notched a 9.850 on both vault and floor.
  • On vault, freshman Halle Braaflat hit a new career high of 9.850.

Rotation One: Beam, 48.850

Following a 9.850 from Kayla Lee to lead off, a fall put pressure on the rest of the lineup. They were able to hit their routines to drop the 9.200, with Clark matching Lee’s 9.850 for the team high. Smith also added a 9.800. 

Rotation Two: Floor, 49.275

The Gym Devils got their spark back on floor. There were three 9.850s in a row from Mangahas, Smith and Gregoire. To close out the lineup, White notched a 9.925, her seventh score of 9.900 or better on floor this season. Lilia Purler added a 9.800 in the lead off spot as well.

Rotation Three: Vault, 49.150

For the second meet in a row, ASU scored over a 49.000 on vault. There were three scores of 9.850, which was the team best. Braaflat got it first, a career high for her, then the last two in the lineup, Gregoire and Mangahas, earned a 9.850 as well.

Rotation Four: Bars, 48.975

The meet ended on bars for the Sun Devils, with 9.850s from Smith and Clark being the team high. A 9.800 from Mangahas was the only other score at or above a 9.800.
