Gonzales named ACCAC Player of the Year, Hunt selected Freshman of the Year, Peabody tabbed Coach of the Year as Men’s Basketball has five named to All-ACCAC teams

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s basketball program was well-represented as the ACCAC conference regular season awards were released.

Sophomore guard Cohenj Gonzales (Mesquite HS) was named ACCAC Division II Player of the Year and became first team All-ACCAC for the second straight year and All-Region I, Division II. He was selected ACCAC Freshman of the Year last season. He averaged 18.6 points, 5.4 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 steals during the regular season as he played and started in 26 games. He shot 48.4 percent from the field, 42.0 percent from three-point range and 84.0 percent from the free throw line.

Sophomore forward/center Gabe Oldham (Spanish Fork HS, UT) became a two-time All-ACCAC and All-Region player as he was selected first team All-ACCAC and All-Region I, Division II. He averaged 12.5 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.0 block per game as he played in 26 games; making 25 starts in the regular season. He also shot 64 percent from the field.

Sophomore forward Wes Ball (Marana HS) was the third Pima player to be named first team All-ACCAC and All-Region I, Division II. He averaged 12.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists as he played and started in 29 games. Ball shot 62.3 percent from the field, 54.5 percent from three-point range and 81.5 percent from the free throw line.

Sophomore guard Max Majerle (Arcadia HS) was tabbed second team All-ACCAC and All-Region I, Division II. He averaged 15.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.0 steals as he played and started in 29 games. Majerle shot 51.9 percent from the field, almost 40 percent from three-point range and 84.9 percent from the foul line.

Freshman Mason Hunt (Bradshaw Mountain HS) was selected ACCAC Division II Freshman of the Year, third team All-ACCAC and All-Region I, Division II. He averaged 11.5 points and 4.2 rebounds as he played in 28 games; making four starts.

Pima Men’s Basketball head coach Brian Peabody was named ACCAC Division II Coach of the Year. He led the Aztecs to a 30-0 record in the regular season and an 18-0 record in ACCAC conference play. He is in his 13thseason at the helm and has an overall record of 263-132. He captured his 700th overall career coaching victory on Feb. 5.

The Aztecs led NJCAA Division II with 104.5 points scored per game, 54.1 field goal percentage, 25.3 rebounding margin, 24.4 assists per game and 1.281 offensive efficiency.

The No. 1 seeded Aztecs (31-0) will host No.2 seed Chandler-Gilbert Community College (20-11) in the Region I, Division II Finals on Friday in their final game at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium for the 2024-25 season. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
