Golf Finishes Second at Top of Texas Tournament

(Fort Worth, TX)  The Park University Gilbert golf team finished in second place that the Top of Texas Invitational hosted by Wayland Baptist University this week.

The Bucs finished six shots off the pace set by Southwest Christian who finished at an 891 total score. The Bucs carded an 897. Park and SW Christian were the only two teams to break 900 for the tournament.

The Bucs were in third place after day one shooting back-to-back 303 scores in the first two rounds before shooting the low round of the day in round three with a 291.

Individually, sophomore Riley Wortman was the low finisher for the Bucs with a third place finish shooting a three-over 219. Senior Eli Cruzan finished in a tie for fifth with a five-over 221.

Sophomore Jax Sisson finished just outside the top 10 with an 11th-place finish shooting an +11 for the tournament but shot the low round of the day among all golfers with a four-under 68.

Freshman Isaiah Halcomb posted his best finish of the season with an 18th place finish. Sophomore Cole Taylor rounded things out with a 25th-place finish.

The Buccaneers have now posted back to back top two finishes in tournaments with seven or more teams for the first time in school history.

The Bucs led the tournament in par 5 scoring and was second in both par 3 and 4 scoring  Wortman and Cruzan led the tournament in par 6 scoring shooting -7 and -6 respectively. Wortman was fourth in par 4 scoring and Sisson was third in par 3 shooting. Sisson led the tournament with 15 birdies.

Up next for the Bucs is their own tournament as they host the Park University Gilbert Shootout at the San Tan Highlands Golf Club in San Tan Valley, Arizona on April 2 and 3.
