(Glendale, AZ)  The Park University Gilbert baseball team dropped a double header to No. 10 Arizona Christian on Saturday, losing game one 13-9 and game two 7-1. The Bucs were swept in the series and fall to 1-7 in GSAC play. ACU who was swept by No. 2 Hope International last weekend is now 4-4 in conference play.

Game 1 – Arizona Christian 13, Park Gilbert 9

After struggling to score runs on Friday, the Bucs bats came alive in game one, putting up nine runs, but came up short dropping a 13-9 contest to the Firestorm.

The Bucs put solo runs on the board in the first and third innings. A Diego Bejarano sacrifice fly and Rees Hall’s first career home run put those runs on the board.

ACU posted nine runs on the first four innings off of Bucs starter Ben Staiger (1-3). Trailing 9-2, the Bucs cut into the lead with a five-run fifth. Spencer Catanack hit his first career home run, a three-run shot and then Caleb Rozier followed with a two-run blast later in the inning.

ACU would extend the lead posting solo runs in the sixth and seventh before Park would again cut the lead to two with a two-run eighth as Hall and Rozier drove in runs.

That would complete the scoring for the Bucs and ACU responded with two more runs in the bottom of the eighth for the final margin.

Hall led the offensive brigade as he went 3-3 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBI. Rozier and Catanack led the team with three RBI.

Game 2 – Arizona Christian 7, Park Gilbert 1

The Buc bats went silent in the second game of the double dip as the Bucs fell 6-1 to the Firestorm.

The Bucs lone run came in the sixth on a Bejarano bases loaded single.

The Bucs used four pitchers in the seven inning game. Starter Caleb Rozier (0-2) gave up two runs in his lone inning, followed by Kindrick Tipping allowing three runs (two earned) in two innings of work followed by Spencer Jacobs who gave up one run in his two innings on the mound. Josh Leckey closed things out allowing one run in the sixth.

Rozier had the only multi-hit game for the Bucs as he went 2-3.

The Bucs now have a week off before returning to GSAC play at Benedictine Mesa next Friday and Saturday March 21-22 at Mesa High School. Game times are 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. both days.
