Aztecs Baseball scores 46 runs to beat Scottsdale Post Grad

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College baseball team (20-4) stepped away from ACCAC conference play for a doubleheader against the Scottsdale Post Grad team.

The Aztecs scored 46 runs and drew 23 walks on the day. Freshman Mike Jones (Canyon del Oro HS) finished the day 6 for 8 with six RBIs and seven runs scored. Freshman Zach Plasschaert went 3 for 6 with four RBIs, five runs scored and three walks while freshman Brian Brimmer (Sahuarita HS) was in the lead-off spot and was 2 for 5 with four RBIs, six runs scored and five walks. Freshman Cam Grenert (Horizon HS) and sophomore Taylin Oana picked up the wins on the mound.

The Aztecs scored runs in the first four innings and secured the run-rule win with three runs in the 5th inning.

Sophomore Andrew Grenert (Horizon HS) hit a lead-off home run to right field in the 5th inning to make it 8-0. Jones knocked in pinch runner Matt MacDonald with his RBI single and Plasschaert ended the game after he scored on a wild pitch.

Freshman Jackson Glueck put the Aztecs on the board in the 1st inning with a sacrifice-fly RBI to score Brimmer. Sophomore Ray Jesse hit an RBI single in the 2nd inning to bring in Jones, who drew a lead-off walk.

The Aztecs scored three runs in the 3rd inning as Glueck scored on an error while Jones and freshman Max Leyva (Tucson Magnet HS) had RBI hits to put the score at 5-0.

Glueck hit a two-run RBI single in the 4th inning to plate Brimmer and Grenert as he finished 1 for 3 with three RBIs and a run. Jones went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs while Grenert was 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs. Brimmer closed it out going 1 for 2 with two runs and two walks.

Cam Grenert got the win in a relief appearance as he pitched two innings, giving up two hits with three strikeouts.

The Pima offense clicked on all cylinders as they scored 12 runs in the 2nd inning and 16 runs in the 3rd inning for their second run rule victory.

Jones capped off the 1st inning with a three-run homer to make it 4-0.

Sophomore Nolan Ganter (Pinnacle HS) hit a grand slam in the 3rd inning as he finished the game 3 for 4 with eight RBIs, five runs scored and two walks.

Jones went 4 for 5 with four RBIs and five runs while Brimmer was 1 for 3 with four RBIs, four runs and three walks. Freshman Ramon Martinez went 1 for 1 with four RBIs, five runs and three walks. Plasschaert closed out the game going 3 for 3 with four RBIs, three runs and two walks.

The Aztecs had 10 players score two runs or more as they drew 17 walks for the game.
Oana got the win as he pitched two innings with three strikeouts and two walks.

The Aztecs get back to ACCAC conference play on Tuesday when they host No. 10 South Mountain Community College in a doubleheader at the West Campus Aztec Field. First game starts at 12:00 p.m.
