(Phoenix, AZ)  It took just one week into the Big 12 Conference era for Sun Devil Baseball to leave its mark as Brandon Compton was named the Big 12 Player of the Week on Tuesday, as announced by the league office.

The reigning Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year and Preseason All-American didn’t miss a beat to lead off the 2025 season, recording two go-ahead scores as part of ASU’s 4-0 start on Opening Weekend.

Compton laced the two-RBI walk-off double on Saturday to earn the series win over the Ohio State Buckeyes and followed that up with a go-ahead two-RBI single to break a 3-3 tie against Austin Peay in the fifth inning on Monday.

Compton homered twice on the weekend, his second one tying Sunday’s game at 2-2 before ASU pulled away for a 17-10 series sweeping victory. Compton also represented the winning run in Friday’s opener with his seventh inning score off a Josiah Cromwick RBI double to give ASU a 9-8 lead.

Compton’s nine RBIs on the weekend were second-most in the league while his eight runs scored are first in the Big 12 after one weekend of action.

The Sun Devils return to action this weekend in a three-game set against mid-major standout Oral Roberts – a 2023 WCWS program – beginning Friday, Feb. 21 at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
