(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (21-5) played its final non-conference game of the regular season on Monday against Yavapai College (5-17).
The No. 12 ranked Aztecs used a second quarter run and held the Roughriders to 21 second half points in their 94-47 win at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.
The Aztecs led 23-16 and started the second quarter with a 16-0 run to go up 39-16. The Aztecs outscored the Roughriders 24-9 in the second frame to take a 47-25 at halftime.
The Aztecs came out on fire to start the fourth quarter as they hit their first seven shots and finished the final quarter going 11 for 16 from the field.
Sophomore Mattanaya Vital (Amphitheater HS) was 6 for 11 from the field and 5 for 8 from three-point range as she finished with a game-high 17 points. She also grabbed four rebounds and had two assists.
Freshman Lucy Land fell short of a double-double as she finished with 12 points and nine rebounds off the bench.
Sophomore Kennedi Niemann contributed with 11 points and three steals and freshman Ahdiayh Chee (Dobson HS) scored 10 points on 3 for 6 shooting and 2 for 5 from beyond the arc.
Sophomore Rori Hoffmeyer (Cibola HS) added six points, six rebounds and five assists. Freshman Melicia Nelson (Window Rock HS) had 10 rebounds.
The Aztecs will be on the road for the next two ACCAC conference games. They will play at Glendale Community College on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
