Seven score in double figures as Men’s Basketball dominates South Mount College

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s basketball team (27-0, 15-0 in ACCAC) took control early in its game against South Mountain Community College (10-17, 5-10) on Saturday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.

The No. 2 ranked Aztecs scored in triple digits for the 14th time this season after beating the Cougars 111-54 for their 27th straight win.

The Aztecs took their first double digit lead at 15-4 after sophomore Cohenj Gonzales (Mesquite HS) converted on a three-point play as it turned into a 27-6 run in the first 10:24. Sophomore Gabe Oldham scored the final two baskets in the first half to put Pima up 48-16. It was the lowest point total the Aztecs had allowed in a half this season.

The Aztecs scored the final 16 points of the game and outscored the Cougars 63-38 in the second half.

The Aztecs produced seven players in double figures and were led by sophomore Wes Ball (Marana HS), who finished the game with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. He went 8 for 11 from the field.

Oldham scored 12 of his 14 points in the first half as he went 7 for 11 from the field to go with seven rebounds, four assists and four blocks.

Freshman Mason Hunt (Bradshaw Mountain HS) scored 13 points to go with seven rebounds and four assists off the bench.

Gonzales added 11 points, six rebounds and six assists while sophomore Max Majerle (Arcadia HS) netted 11 points. He also had five rebounds and two blocks. Sophomore Cooper Jones (Buena HS) also scored 11 points.

Freshman Isaac Johnson contributed with 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench.

The Aztecs will play at Glendale Community College on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
