(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College softball team (19-1, 13-1 in ACCAC) faced a tough test on Tuesday as it hosted Phoenix College in an ACCAC conference doubleheader at the West Campus Aztec Softball Field.
The No. 5 ranked Aztecs split with the No. 7 Bears as Pima dominated the first game but dropped the second game to snap their 19-game winning streak. Sophomore Aubrey Marx (Cienega HS) closed out the day going 5 for 8 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Freshman Jiselle Nunez (Tucson Magnet HS) was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, two runs and four walks.
Freshman Arianna Flores (Salpointe Catholic HS) picked up the win while freshman Belen Camacho (Pueblo HS) took the loss.
Game 1: (5) Pima Aztecs 10, (7) Phoenix College Bears 2 (5 innings)
The Aztecs scored three runs in the 4th inning and four runs in the 5th inning to earn the run-rule victory.
Up 3-1 in the 4th inning, the Aztecs padded their lead as Marx hit an RBI single to score freshman Clarissa Figueroa (Mountain View HS). Nunez followed with a two-run home run to make it 6-1.
The offensive onslaught continued in the 5th inning as Figueroa knocked in freshman Ameriak Lopez-Bedoy (Sunnyside HS) and sophomore Cheyanne Ortiz (Tucson Magnet HS) with an RBI double. Marx brought in Figueroa with her RBI single. Sophomore Talia Martin (Mountain View HS), who drew a walk earlier in the inning, scored on an error to end the game.
The Aztecs got on the board with three runs in the 1st inning. Sophomore Alyssa Noriega (Pueblo HS) hit a two-run RBI single driving in Marx and Nunez. She scored on a passed ball to make it 3-0.
Marx finished the game 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs. Nunez went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs while Noriega was 1 for 4 with two RBIs and a run. Figueroa closed out the game going 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Lopez-Bedoy and Ortiz each scored a run.
Flores picked up the win as she pitched all five innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on one hit with six strikeouts and six walks on 107 pitches.

Game 2: (7) Phoenix College Bears 4, (5) Pima Aztecs 3
The Aztecs took the lead in the bottom of the 6th inning but the Bears rallied off three runs in the 7th to take the lead for good.
The Aztecs got on the board in the 5th inning when Marx hit an RBI double to center field to score pinch runner Mari Asher (Canyon del Oro HS) and tie the game at 1-1. Ortiz got things started with a lead-off double.
Martin and Marx hit back-to-back RBI singles in the 6th inning to put Pima ahead. Martin’s RBI single scored Lopez-Bedoy, who hit a double with one out. Marx’s RBI single brought around Figueroa, who reached on an error. The Aztecs led 3-1 heading into the 7th inning.
The Bears scored three runs in the top of the 7th to take the lead. The Aztecs went down in order to close out the game.
Marx closed out the game going 2 for 4 with two RBIs while Martin finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and a walk. Nunez had three walks while Figueroa scored a run. Ortiz and Lopez-Bedoy each were 1 for 3.
Camacho took the loss as she pitched all seven innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on five hits with five strikeouts and three walks on 114 pitches.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Aztec Softball Field next Tuesday when they play Mesa Community College. The first game will start at noon.
