(Federal Way, WA) Day Two of the Big 12 Swim and Dive Championships featured No.4/17 Swim and Dive dominate the pool by winning all six races helping the men and women’s teams extend their lead Tuesday night at King Country Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Washington.
Jonny Kulow set a meet record in the 50 free becoming a Big 12 Champion with a winning time of 18.64. Caroline Bentz broke her own school record and winning the 50 free in 21.77.
Lane Stallworth was a finalist in the 3-meter diving competition and placed seventh in finals setting a personal best 301.15 points helping the Sun Devils pick up a critical 23 points.
Entering Thursday, the women’s team has a 178.5 point lead over in-state rival Arizona, and the men have a 237.5 point lead over Utah going into day three.
Day three of the Big 12 Championships features the 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free and the men’s 1M diving and women’s 3M diving events starting with prelims at 11 a.m. MST on ESPN+.

Kicking off the night Alexa Reyna narrowly edged out Deniz Ertan for the women’s 500 free title, winning with a time of 4:39.24. Ertan was second in 4:39.74. The team had five in the top eight in the ‘A’ final with Grace Lindberg placing fourth in 4:46.22, Elli Straume in seventh at 4:50.62 and Katherine Randall placing eighth in 4:51.87.
The men’s 500 free featured Scottsdale native Daniel Matheson taking the title with a time of 4:14.37. Freshman Jacob Pins was third in 4:17.22 and Jack Wadsworth was sixth in 4:18.77.
In the women’s 200 IM final senior Charli Brown edged out teammate Zoe Summar for the title, winning in 1:57.84. Summar was second in 1:57.88. Sophomore Sonia Vaishnani helped the Sun Devils sweep the podium with a personal best time of 1:58.15 for third. Ella Guilfoil was seventh in the ‘A’ final in 2:00.54.
Cale Martter pulled away in the 200 IM in the final 100 yards, edging out Michael Hochwalt who made a last gasp effort for second place clocking in a 1:43.29. The Sun Devils placed four of the top five in the event helping win critical points. Freshman Oscar Bilbao was fourth in 1:43.47 and Lucien Vergnes was fifth in 1:44.38. Junior Andy Dobrzanski set a personal best winning the ‘B’ final in 1:44.42.
Caroline Bentz out sprinted the opposition being the only swimmer under 22-seconds, setting a school record and just missing out on a meet record by .01 seconds. Freshman Julia Ullmann was third in 22.19 and Erin Milligan was eighth in 22.58.
The men’s 50 free featured seven Sun Devils, moreover Jonny Kulow outlasted them all becoming a Big 12 champion in 18.64 with a personal best and an NCAA ‘A’ cut time, while also setting a meet record. Olympian Ilya Kharun was second in 18.82 and Tommy Palmer was third in 18.96. Patrick Sammon was fourth in 19.21, Olympian Tolu Young was fifth in 19.35, freshman Quin Seider was seventh in 19.49 and Olympian Tiago Behar was eighth in 19.55.
In total the Sun Devils earned 183 points for placing seven of the top eight in the 50 free alone, helping extend their lead.

Diving Results:
- Lane Stallworth was eighth in prelims which helped him qualify for finals in the 3m diving competition. He later would finish seventh in finals with a season-best 301.15 points helping the Sun Devils pick up a critical 23 points.
- Amayah Wiley was the top Sun Devil in the 1m diving event, placing 14th in prelims to move into the consolation final, where she placed 16th and picked up 11 points for the women’s team.
