Day Two Sees Tough Competition for #11 Sand Devils

(Queen’s Beach, HI)  Against the top two teams in the nation, No. 11 Sun Devil Beach Volleyball dropped both of its duals on Friday, falling 5-0 to No. 1 USC and 4-1 to No. 2 TCU.

Arizona State is now 1-3 at the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Classic. 

The No. 4 duo of Arden Besecker and Ava Haughy continue to find success. Despite suffering their first loss against the Trojans, they bounced back to get ASU’s lone dual point against the Horned Frogs to close out the day.

Game One: No. 1 USC 5, No. 11 ASU 0
The Sun Devils had some close sets, but the Trojans (2-2) were able to win in straight sets across all courts. The No. 1 pair of Daniella Kensinger and Ava Williamson took their first set far into extras, falling 27-25.

Game Two: No. 2 TCU 4, No. 11 ASU 1

Besecker and Haughy were able to win on court four over the Horned Frogs (2-2), taking it in straight sets. However, the remaining four courts lost in two. This was the third ranked win of the year for the duo of Besecker and Haughy.

Up Next

The final day of the tournament is tomorrow. Arizona State will play No. 7 LMU (4-0) at 2 p.m. MST before ending the weekend against No. 5 Stanford (1-3) at 5:45 p.m. MST.
