(Fort Worth, TX)  The Park University Gilbert baseball team got the lumber rolling on a rainy day one of its road trip to Texas sweeping a double header from Texas Wesleyan winning the first game 11-7 and the second contest 24-6. The Bucs up their record to 7-5 on the season.

These are two impressive victories against a team in TWU who came into the game with 10-2 record and went 9-0 to start the season. Park dropped a double header to TWU last season.

Game 1 – Park Gilbert 11, Texas Wesleyan 7 (7 innings)

Park Gilbert used a five-run sixth inning to take the lead and held on to take game one of the double header 11-7 against Texas Wesleyan.

The Buccaneers jumped out to an early lead with a three-run first inning. Three straight doubles from Andrew Allanson, Caleb Rozier and Diego Bejarano started the fireworks to put two runs on the board before the Rams could blink. Eric Baratta finished the scoring with single to score Bejarano with two outs.

TWU answered with two runs of its own off of Park Gilbert starter Junior Flores.

Both teams went scoreless in innings 2-4 before the Bucs increased their lead to 6-2 with another three-run inning in the fifth. It started again at the top of the lineup with Allanson drawing a walk to lead off the inning. Bejarano collected his third hit of the day to move courtesy runner Will Fleece to third. Joel Holguin then singled Fleece home and pinch runner Ty Matz went to third. After a pitching change and a walk loaded the bases, Baratta came through with his second RBI single of the day, this one driving in two runs to close out the scoring.

TWU had an answer as the got to Flores in the bottom half of the inning adding five runs to take a 7-6 lead. Flores took a no-decision as he went 4 1/3 innings allowing seven hits and six runs (five earned). Sunny Patelcame on to get the last two outs of the inning.

This type of back-and-forth game has become old hat for the Buccaneers in 2025. They did not blink in losing their lead and responded with a five run top of the sixth inning to retake the lead.

Rozier and Bejarano had RBI singles in the inning, Holguin had an two-RBI triple and the Bucs got the final run home on a suicide squeeze by Baratta to bring the fifth and final run home.

Spencer Jacobs came on to pitch the last two innings and held the Rams scoreless allowing three hits and striking out two. He picked up his first career save. Patel picked up his third win of the season to move to 3-0.

Bejarano went 4-4 at the plate with two RBI, Holguin posts a 3-4 day with two RBI and Eric Baratta went 2-2 with four RBI. Rozier had two hits and two RBI as well.

Game 2 – Park Gilbert 24, Texas Wesleyan 6 (7 innings)

The Buccos did not waste any time getting on the scoreboard in game two batting around in a six-run first through the raindrops.

Rozier started things with an infield single before advancing to third on a failed pickoff attempt which got away from the Rams first baseman. Bejarano kept raking, drilling his fifth hit of the day to get Rozier home. Allanson then doubled to center and Holguin was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Gino Caperon, the Bucs leader in RBI who was quiet in game one, singled to center to drive home Bejarano. Allanson scored on a wild pitch before RBI singles by Miller and Rees Hall made it 5-0 and chased the Rams starting pitcher. Rozier capped the inning getting the final run home on a fielder’s choice.

The Bucs would not let off the gas, plating two runs each in innings 2-4 before exploding for another five runs in the fifth highlighted by a Bejarano three-run blast to make it 17-2. But it dd not stop there. Park would add three more in the sixth and ???? more in the seventh.

Southpaw sophomore Aidan Guthrey (1-0) got the start on the mound for the Bucs and put together a solid outing going four innings allowing 3 hits and 2 runs with 3 strikeouts to pick up his first win of the season. Trey Langan pitched the final three innings of the seven inning game to pick up one of the easiest saves he will ever see.

Fourteen Bucs made plate appearances in the game and 12 of them got hits. Seven of the 14 had multiple hits and four players had multiple RBI.

Bejarano had a day for the ages. He went 8-9 at the plate between the two games with six RBI. Allanson also had another memorable day with six RBI in the second game and two home runs. He broke the total bases record (13) set by Frank Racioppo (11) in 2021.

To say the least, the Bucs either set or put themselves close to the top of many team and individual records with this win in game two. Among the records:
