Barta has four RBIs, Grenert scores five runs as Baseball sweeps Glendale CC

(Glendale, AZ)  The Pima Community College baseball team (18-4, 8-4 in ACCAC) got two ACCAC conference wins on Tuesday as it played on the road at Glendale Community College (8-14, 1-9).

Freshman Sean Barta closed out the day going 4 for 7 with four RBIs and a run scored while sophomore Andrew Grenert (Horizon HS) hit a home run and went 1 for 2 with an RBI, five runs and four walks. Freshman Luis Pablo Navarro (Walden Grove HS) and sophomore Lucas Casey (Canyon del Oro HS) produced quality starts and got the wins on the mound.

Game 1: (23) Pima Aztecs 2, Glendale Gauchos 0

The Aztecs scored the first run of the game in the 5th inning and added some insurance in the 7th as the pitching staff took care of the rest.

Navarro picked up the win after throwing six shutout innings, giving up five hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Sophomore Tsubasa Tomii picked up the save after he pitched the final inning and had two strikeouts.

Barta hit an RBI single in the 5th inning to bring in pinch runner Grenert as Pima got on the scoreboard. Sophomore Caden Richards hit a single with two outs to reach base before Grenert replaced him on the bathpaths.

Grenert hit a solo home run to left field with one out in the 7th inning. He finished the game 1 for 1 with an RBI and two runs scored. Barta went 2 for 4 with an RBI as Richards and freshman Mike Jones (Canyon del Oro HS) each went 2 for 2 with a walk.

Game 2: (23) Pima Aztecs 14, Glendale Gauchos 4 (6 innings)

The Aztecs got going with five runs in the 1st inning, five in the 4th inning and helped secure a run-rule victory with three runs in the 6th inning.

Barta put Pima on the board with a sacrifice-fly RBI. Two batters later, freshmen Zach Plasschaert and Matt MacDonald hit back-to-back two run RBI singles as the Aztecs took a 5-0 lead.

Sophomore Nolan Ganter (Pinnacle HS) and Barta hit RBI singles as part of the 4th inning while Plasschaert, MacDonald and freshman Ramon Martinez drew three straight bases loaded walks as Pima took a 10-3 advantage.

Freshman Leon Cereceres hit a two-run RBI single in the 6th inning to drive in MacDonald and Martinez as freshman Jackson Glueck capped off the scoring with his RBI single to plate Ganter.

Barta hit a sacrifice-fly RBI in the 5th inning and finished the game 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run. MacDonald also closed out the game going 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run. Plasschaert finished 1 for 3 with three RBIs and a run. Cereceres went 2 for 3 with two RBIs while Martinez was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs. Grenert scored three runs and had four walks while sophomore Collin Senior (Horizon HS) scored twice and had three walks.

The Aztecs finished the game with 13 walks.

Casey got the win as he pitched five innings, giving up four runs (one earned) on seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk on 88 pitches.

The Aztecs will step away from ACCAC conference play on Saturday when they host a non-conference doubleheader against Scottsdale Post Grad. First game starts at noon.
