(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (20-5, 12-3 in ACCAC) secured its fourth straight 20-win season and ninth out of the last 10 years as it beat South Mountain Community College (5-21, 0-15) on Saturday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.
The No. 12 ranked Aztecs scored in triple digits for the first time this season after beating the Cougars 100-55.
The Aztecs took their first double digit lead in the second quarter after freshman Kennedi Niemann hit a three-pointer to make it 37-26. Up 42-30, the Aztecs scored the final eight points of the quarter to go up 50-30 at the break.
The Aztecs continued the scoring barrage in the third quarter as they turned it into a 21-0 run to take a 63-30 lead.
Up 76-43, the Aztecs started off the fourth quarter with a 12-0 run to make it 88-43. The Aztecs outscored the Cougars by double digits in the final three quarters.
Sophomore Kiley Sours-Miller led the way with a team-high 22 points on 10 for 14 shooting. She also grabbed six rebounds.
Freshman Melicia Nelson (Window Rock HS) closed out the game with eight points, 12 rebounds, eight assists and three steals while freshman Ahdiayh Chee (Dobson HS) also scored eight points after going 3 for 3 from the field.
Sophomore Amelie Buffill-Gutierrez (Sabino HS) and Niemann each posted seven points and three rebounds while sophomore Tayden Hanks added seven points, three rebounds and three assists.
Sophomore Mattanaya Vital (Amphitheater HS), and freshmen Sofia Cambridge and Lucy Land, each contributed with six points.
The Aztecs get right back to work on Monday as they host a non-conference game against Yavapai College at the West Campus Aztec Gym at 6:00 p.m.
