Swimming Sweeps Weekly Swim Awards For Fifth Time this Season

(Tempe, AZ)  For the second consecutive week No. 3/14 Sun Devil Swim and Dive swept the swimming portion of the Big 12 weekly awards announced by the conference Wednesday afternoon.

Olympic medalist Ilya Kharun won his fifth Big 12 weekly honor of the season by sweeping the 100 fly (44.73) and the 200 fly (1:40.13). In addition he swam a 19.08 50 fly leg in the 200 medley relay which placed first. He currently holds the best time in the country in the 200 fly at 1:38.74.

Graduate Jonathon Adam secured his first career weekly honor after sweeping the backstroke events in the 100 back (46.29) and the 200 back (1:42.26), both which were season-bests this season. He shares the award with Nathaniel Eliason of BYU.

Breaststroke specialist Iza Adame earned her first career weekly conference honor by winning both the 100 breast (1:00.22) which was also a season-best by one-hundredth of a second. The senior also won the 200 breast in 2:12.40 and was part of the winning 200 medley relay team with a 27.11 50 breast split.

All-American Caroline Bentz wins her seventh Big 12 weekly honor of the year, this time being named Newcomer of the Week after winning the 50 free (22.23) and the 200 back  (1:54.61) in the victory over No. 23 Minnesota. The Virginia native also swam a 21.39 50 free split in the 200 medley relay and was the anchor leg of the 400 free relay, swimming a 48.88 100 free.
