(Tempe, AZ) Following the Eddie Reese Texas Showdown, No. 4/17 Sun Devil Swim and Dive received four Big 12 Weekly Awards announced by the conference this afternoon.
The program has now received 29 Big 12 weekly honors this season, won by 13 different Sun Devils.
Senior Charli Brown receives her first weekly honor of her career. Most notably setting a new school record in the 400 IM with a fourth place finish in 4:07.58 in the championship final. The Australian also had a top-4 finish in the 200 IM, clocking in a 1:57.50. Brown also was on the ‘A’ 400 free relay team that was fifth, swimming a 49.62 100 free time. She also participated in the 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay and the 200 backstroke in Texas.
Olympian Ilya Kharun won his sixth weekly honor of the season after going a perfect 3-for-3 in individual events. Winning the 50 free in 18.62, and sweeping the 100 fly (43.90) and 200 fly (1:39.18) events. The Canadian also was part of all four winning relay teams, picking up critical points for the Sun Devils going 2-1 this past weekend in Texas.
Graduate Caroline Bentz earned her eighth Big 12 weekly award this year by winning newcomer of the week and breaking her own school record in the 100 free, setting it in 47.97 in a lead-off leg in the 400 free relay. She placed third in the 100 free individually in 48.27, and fourth in the 50 free clocking in a 22.24. She appeared in the 200 free relay, the 400 medley relay and placed sixth in the 100 back.
Freshman Quin Seider won his first Big 12 weekly honor earning co-newcomer of the week after setting a personal-best in the 200 free, placing 12th overall in 1:33.75. He swam a 42.28 lead-off leg in the 400 free relay which placed fourth, but the top ‘B’ team in the event. In the 200 free relay he swam a 19.35 50 free where the ‘B’ team placed fifth in the event. He shares the award with Nathaniel Eliason from BYU.

Looking Ahead:
Sun Devil Swim and Dive will then prepare for in-state rival Arizona and celebrate the seniors on Feb. 8. The meet will begin at 12 p.m MST.
