(Phoenix, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (14-3, 6-1 in ACCAC) picked up a win on the road on Wednesday at Phoenix College (8-10, 2-5).
The No. 10 ranked Aztecs used a pair of double digit runs to beat the Bears 80-53 for their fifth straight win.
The Aztecs took a 16-8 lead after the first quarter. Up 27-19, the Aztecs went on a 12-0 run that carried over into the opening minutes of the third quarter to make it 39-19. The Bears cut it to a 14-point deficit (43-29), but the Aztecs responded with an 11-0 run forcing Phoenix College to call timeout. The Aztecs led 54-29 with 1:30 left in the third quarter at that point.
Sophomore Rori Hoffmeyer (Cibola HS) scored a career-high 26 points as she went 11 for 14 from the field and 4 for 4 from the free throw line. She also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out three assists.
Freshman Kiley Sours-Miller shot 8 for 11 from the floor and finished with 17 points. She fell a rebound short of a double-double as she snagged nine boards.
FreshmanP Kennedi Niemann also scored in double figures for the Aztecs as she had 11 points to go with four rebounds.
Sophomore Mattanaya Vital (Amphitheater HS) scored six points after going 2 for 2 from three-point range while freshman Lucy Land had four points and five rebounds.
The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Saturday when they host Chandler-Gilbert Community College. Tipoff will be at 2:00 p.m.
