(Aliso Viejo, CA)  For the fourth time this season a Park University Gilbert women’s basketball player has been tabbed with the GSAC Offensive Player of the Week honor. This week Savannah Huerta won the award for her performance during the week of January 13-19. This is Huerta’s first time winning the award and she joins Kayla Schroeder (2x) and Aubry Saleapaga as winners of the award this season.

Huerta won the award behind her 29 point performance in the Buccaneers win against The Master’s on Saturday where she knocked down seven three-point baskets and was a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line. Huerta shot 53 percent from both the floor and three-point range on the day.

This season Huerta has established herself as one of the premiere three-point shooters in the country. Huerta (3.9) and teammate Kayla Schroeder (3.6) are No. 1 and 2 in the country in three-point baskets made per game. Huerta has made 59 three-point baskets this season which is eighth most in the country but all of the players ahead of her on the list have played at minimum three more games.

This was the third game this season the Covington, Wash., native has knocked down seven or more three-pointers and the sixth 20-point plus game this season. Huerta set the Park Gilbert school record for threes with nine against Bethesda on November 30. She would have been the front runner for the first GSAC Offensive Player of the Week award if teammate Schroeder hadn’t scored 35 points to set the school record for points against an NAIA opponent.

Huerta and the Buccaneers have two more pivotal conference games this week as they take on Benedictine Mesa this Thursday at 5 p.m. at BENU and No. 13 Arizona Christian this Saturday at 12 p.m. at Arizona Athletic Grounds.
