(Flagstaff, AZ) The Park University Gilbert Track and Field team competed in the Lumberjack Team Challenge Friday afternoon, a meet hosted by Northern Arizona University at the J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome.
The Buccaneers squared off against several Division I schools and track and field programs, with athletes taking part in various events.
Park-Gilbert’s standout performance came from junior Owen Olney who took home the high jump, placing 1st in the event with a height of 1.95 meters.
The day started with the women’s 60 meter dash, an event in which senior Johanna Jessop finished top-25 with a time of 8.46. In the men’s 60 meter dash, senior Dylan Hukill finished in 18th place with a time of 7.03 seconds and freshman Brian Sparks made the top-35 clocking in at 7.22 seconds. Junior Owen Olney finished with a time of 7.78 while senior Bridger Megeath clocked in at 7.92 seconds.
Senior Nardia Padilla cleared the top-15 in the women’s 200 meter dash, finishing the event in 26.95 seconds. Jessop followed shortly after with a time of 28.30. On the men’s side, Hukill led the way finishing top-20 with a time of 22.74 seconds.
Maryan Sharif placed top-10 in the women’s 800 meter run with a time of 2:29.55. She was the first player, from an NAIA institution, to cross the finish line in this event.
In the women’s 60 meter hurdles, Padilla claimed another top-20 finish clocking in at 9.48 seconds.
The women’s high jump featured an 11th place finish from junior Mallory Turner, who reached a height of 1.52 meters.
Jessup also took part in the women’s long jump, placing 19th with a distance of 5.13 meters.
The Bucs head to the University of New Mexico in two weeks, when they compete in the New Mexico Team Open on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 in Albuquerque.
