(Mesa, AZ)   The Park University Gilbert men’s basketball team (5-14, 2-5) lost on home turf to the Arizona Christian University Firestorm (17-4, 5-2) by a score of 43-72, Saturday afternoon at Arizona Athletic Grounds.

In this contest against the No. 6 ranked program in the NAIA, the Buccaneers initially hung around as they only trailed by single-digits through the first 15 minutes of action. ACU then ran away with the momentum in the second half, as they extended their largest lead of the game to 37 points with roughly five minutes remaining.

The offensive struggles continued for the Bucs as they shot 23.6% from the field. They also converted just two of 18 three-point attempts.

The most impressive outing from Park-Gilbert came from guard Mahlik Lindsey, who came off the bench and provided 25 points. Lindsey led the team in scoring Saturday afternoon shooting 6-11 from the field, 2-6 from downtown, and a perfect 11-11 from the free-throw line. Mahlik’s 25 points marked a new season-high, surpassing the 17 points he scored against Westminster (Utah) on Nov. 29, 2024.

The Buccaneers drop their fifth straight game in conference play, while the No. 6 ranked Firestorm move to 17-4 overall and 3rd place in the Great Southwest Athletic Conference standings.

Park-Gilbert returns to the floor this Thursday, Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m. MST, when they host the No. 20 ranked Hope International University Royals (18-2, 6-0) at Arizona Athletic Grounds.
