(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College softball team came away with four straight wins to start the season at the College of Southern Nevada Kickoff Classic and two players stood out and received recognition from the ACCAC conference.
Sophomore infielder Natalya Rivera (Sunnyside HS) was named ACCAC Division II Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 19-25. She went 8 for 12 (.667 avg) with nine RBIs, six runs scored, four doubles, two home runs and one walk. She leads the NJCAA in batting average and is second in RBIs.
The Aztecs beat Utah State-Eastern (9-7), No. 9 ranked College of Southern Idaho (12-9), Snow College (13-8) and Arizona Western College (14-4) in Henderson, NV.
Freshman was named ACCAC Division II Pitcher of the Week. She made three appearances, which included one start in the circle. She pitched a total of nine and one-third innings, giving up five runs (five earned) on six hits with 16 strikeouts and six walks. She threw shutouts in her two relief appearances (six innings, no earned runs, 11 strikeouts and three walks). Flores got the win against Snow College.
The Aztecs will open ACCAC conference play on Saturday when they head to Mesa Community College for a doubleheader. First game starts at noon.
