(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (7-1, 3-0 in ACCAC) earned a dominating win against South Mountain Community College (3-7, 0-3) on Wednesday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.
The No. 9 ranked Aztecs outscored the Cougars 24-6 in the opening quarter and cruised to a 90-27 win.
The Cougars cut into Pima’s lead in the opening minutes of the second quarter going on a 9-4 run to make it 28-15. The Aztecs countered with a 12-0 run to take a 42-16 lead at halftime.
The Aztecs outscored the Cougars 48-11 in the second half.
Freshman Sofia Cambridge (Page HS) scored 10 straight in the third quarter and finished with a game-high 14 points as she went 7 for 9 from the field. She also grabbed four rebounds.
Freshman Kiley Sours-Miller finished the game with 13 points as she was 6 for 9 shooting and had eight rebounds, two steals and one block.
Sophomore Rori Hoffmeyer (Cibola HS) fell short of a double-double as she posted 10 points and nine rebounds. She was 5 for 9 from the field.
Freshman Kennedi Niemann closed out the game with nine points, five assists and two rebounds while fellow freshman Melicia Nelson (Window Rock HS) added seven points, eight assists and three rebounds.
Freshman Lucy Land had six points, seven rebounds and three assists and sophomore Annalise Holthaus (Ironwood Ridge HS) finished with six points and four rebounds.
The Aztecs out-rebounded South Mountain 64-33. The Aztecs had 22 assists for the game.
Pima will hit the road on Saturday as they play at Glendale Community College. Tipoff is at 2:00 p.m.
