(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s soccer program received another honor from the United Soccer Coaches.
The staff of head coach David Cosgrove and assistant coaches Nils Roth, Gabe Mendoza and Conner Cosgrove, were selected the 2024 Junior College Men’s Division II West Region Staff of the Year.
The Aztecs advanced to the NJCAA Division II National Semifinal game where they fell in penalty kicks to Northeast Community College. They closed out the 2024 season with a 20-1-1 overall record. It was the most wins in a season since 2018 when they went 26-2. Their 15-1 record in ACCAC conference play was the most wins since 2018 when they were 18-2. They produced a 13-game winning streak during the season and were 10-0 at the West Campus Aztec Field. The Aztecs were Co-ACCAC Conference Champions with Phoenix College and claimed their first Region I, Division II title since the 2020-21 season.
They had three players selected NJCAA Division II All-American, two named United Soccer Coaches All-Americans and five selected to the All-ACCAC/Region I, Division II teams.
Cosgrove is 433-124-40 in 28 seasons as the Aztecs head coach. Roth closed out his second season as an assistant coach. He was the starting goalkeeper on the 2018 NJCAA Division I National Championship team. Mendoza was on the 2018 National Championship coaching staff that was awarded United Soccer Coaches Junior College Division I Staff of the Year. Conner Cosgrove finished up his second season as an assistant coach and was a member of the 2021 NJCAA Division II National Championship team.
They will be recognized at the NJCAA Meeting as part of the United Soccer Coaches Convention on Friday, January 10 in Chicago, Illinois.
