(Tempe, AZ) The Sun Devils put the Bulldogs on a leash with a 5-3 victory in the opening battle of the two-game series at Mullett Arena on Friday night. The No. 19 Arizona State hockey team’s (7-7-1, 4-3-0 NCHC) offense was bolstered by goals from five different skaters who helped nab three conference points from Minnesota Duluth (5-9-0, 2-5-0 NCHC).
ASU now solely owns the second place spot in conference standings with 13 points (trailing Western Michigan’s 18 points).
Dylan Jackson scored the game-winning goal, his second of the season to push the Sun Devils to a four-game winning streak.
GAME NOTES
ASU dominated at the faceoff dot with a 60.7 percent success rate. Artem Shlaine went 13-10, Cullen Potter won 66.7 percent with 10 wins to only five losses, and Cole Gordon won seven battles to a mere three losses.
Luke Pavicich made his sixth consecutive start and tallied 35 saves – the second-most in a single season for him this season
ASU was outshot 38-28 through 60 minutes and held to only nine shots on net in both the first and third periods. The Sun Devils are now 3-1-1 when outshot by their opponent
