(Aliso Viejo, CA) Park University Gilbert libero Taylor Van Winkle was honored by the Great Southwest Conference as its Volleyball Defender of the Week for her play for the week of October 21-27, 2024. This is Van Winkle’s first player of the week honor and the first for the Bucs volleyball team this season.
Van Winkle who had been used most of the season as a defensive specialist was given the opposite color jersey and made the team’s libero this past week. She took full advantage of the opportunity to set a career high for digs with 26 in the Bucs four-set win over Hope International last Friday, Oct. 25. She added four assists and two aces to the winning cause.
Van Winkle followed her 26-dig performance with a 23-dig masterclass the next day against Life Pacific. She had another ace and two assists as well. Van Winkle averaged 6.13 digs per set for the week.
The Buccaneers return to the court tomorrow evening Oct. 29 as they travel to Riverside, Calif., for a non-conference contest at La Sierra starting at 5 p.m. before returning to conference play against the Master’s in Santa Clarita, Calif., on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
