(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s soccer team was highlighted in the All-Arizona Community College Athletic Conference/Region teams.
Sophomore defender D’Andre Pickett (Tucson Magnet HS) was named ACCAC/Region I Division II Player of the Year and became a two-time first team All-ACCAC/Region I player. He helped lead the backline to nine shutout victories during the regular season. They also had two shutout wins in the Region I, Division II Playoffs. The Aztecs have given up just 11 goals this season. Pickett has played and started in 18 games with two goals and four assists.
Sophomore midfielder Brandon Sanchez (Canyon del Oro HS) was selected first team All-ACCAC/Region I as he became a two-time All-ACCAC/Region I player. He was selected to the second team last season. Sanchez has played and started in 17 games with nine goals and five assists.
Sophomore midfielder and forward Ismael Ruiz (Tucson Magnet HS) was also named first team All-ACCAC/Region I. Ruiz has played in all 19 games; making 15 starts. He led the Aztecs with 15 goals, 11 assists (led ACCAC conference) and 41 points.
Sophomore Frank Castro (Prescott HS) was selected second team All-ACCAC/Region I. He played and started in 16 games and scored one goal. Castro helped the Aztecs outscore their opponents 84-11; which included three goals and none surrendered during the Region I, Division II Playoffs.
Sophomore Jose Carlos Ortiz (Barca Academy) was named second team All-ACCAC/Region I. He played in 15 games; making 13 starts as he logged 1226:00 minutes protecting the net. Ortiz finished with 38 saves and gave up just nine goals (0.66 GAA).
The Aztecs captured their first Region I, Division II Championship since 2020-21. They will play in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament from Nov. 17-23 in Huntsville, AL.
