Camila Razcon scores but Women’s Soccer rally halted against Heartland CC

(Huntsville, AL)  The Pima Community College women’s soccer team (12-5) opened its portion of the NJCAA Division II National Tournament on Sunday at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, AL.

The No. 6 seeded Aztecs fell behind by two goals, but the rally was cut short in their loss to No. 3 seeded Heartland Community College 3-1 in Pool C play.

Down 2-0, the Aztecs got on the scoreboard in the 60th minute when sophomore Camila Razcon (Marana HS) scored on her shot inside the box. It was assisted by fellow sophomore Solaris Graves (Ironwood Ridge HS).

The Hawks (19-1-1) got on the board in the 19th minute with a goal by Valentina Bernal. Heartland went up 2-0 in the 57th minute when Floor Assmann scored in the box. They took the two-goal lead back when Bernal scored her second goal in the 72nd minute.

The Aztecs finished with three shots on goal while the Hawks had eight for the game. Freshman Phoebe Knisley (Canyon del Oro HS) closed out the match with five saves.

The Aztecs will close out Pool C on Monday when they go up against No. 10 seed Pensacola State College (FL) at 3:15 p.m. (2:15 p.m. Tucson time).
