Bucs Sweep Eagles in Non-Conference Match

(Riverside, CA)  The Park University Gilbert women’s volleyball team has now won two of three matches after defeating future GSAC member La Sierra in a non-conference match Tuesday evening in Riverside Calif. The Buccaneers move to 6-9 overall on the season.

The Buccaneers fell behind 6-0 in the opening frame before winning 10 straight points on graduate setter Daniella Miranda-Johnson’s serve which included three aces to tie her for the fifth place on Park’s all-time aces list (70 aces). The Bucs would never trail again the in set and rolled to a 25-19 opening set win. Park had 12 kills and only one error for the set, while LSU would commit eight attack errors to offset its 11 kills.

Miranda-Johnson would break the mark in set two with an ace on her second serve which tied her for fourth place and then would take sole possession of the fourth place with her sixth ace of the night later in a set in which the Bucs would lead by as many as eight points before settling on a 25-18 second stanza triumph. Again, the Bucs only committed one attack error while putting away 15 kills to hit .438. The Eagles lowered its error total to five, but only had seven kills, hitting .061.

The third set saw the Bucs jump out to a 6-0 lead and never trailed as they closed out the match with another 25-18 win. Both teams played a pretty clean set with both teams hitting .294 (14 kills, 4 errors on 34 attempts for Park and 12 kills, 2 errors on 34 attempts for LSU).

For the match, the Bucs made a season low six errors and had a season high .354 hitting percentage.

Individually, Porsche Bauer led the team with 11 kills, she did not make an error and hit .478. The 11 kills tied Bauers career high. Mallory Turner had 10 kills with only one error on 17 attempts to hit .529 as she continues her torrid pace over the last three games as she has had 43 kills in that span.

Leila Lee and Charyiah Curry chipped in with seven and six kills, respectively.

Miranda-Johnson set a season high with 33 assists and a career high with seven aces which is also the second highest total in a match in school history.

Reigning GSAC Defender of the Week Taylor Van Winkle led the team with 16 digs.

Park Gilbert will now try to take this momentum into a tough conference matchup The Master’s Wednesday night at 6 p.m. The Mustangs swept the Bucs 3-0 earlier in the month at Park.
