(Gilbert, AZ) The Park University Gilbert men’s soccer team (7-7-4, 5-5-4) lost at home to the Arizona Christian University Firestorm (7-7-4, 5-5-4) Saturday night at Desert Sky Park.
Following the loss, and Benedictine Mesa’s tie against OUAZ, the Buccaneers were knocked out of postseason contention and a trip to the GSAC Championships.
After 63 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Firestorm found the back of the net and rattled off three more goals in the final 24 minutes of action.
Park-Gilbert’s best chance to get on the board came in the 49th minute of play, when a short-range shot from junior midfielder Ryan Masterson hit the crossbar. The Bucs offense totaled 15 shots, four of which were on goal.
Despite a somber ending to the regular season tonight was about commemorating the seven seniors who played in their final collegiate match, honoring their contributions to Buccaneers Soccer with their families beside them.
Park-Gilbert men’s soccer will return to the pitch in August for the start of the 2025 regular season with plenty of returning talent, as they spend the offseason gearing up for their second year in the Great Southwest Athletic Conference.
