Two From Lacrosse Take Home Gold with Team USA

(Utica, NY)  In the Inaugural Women’s Box Lacrosse Championships, Sun Devil Lacrosse defender Helen Park, and assistant coach Caroline Wakefield took home gold after defeating Canada 10-7 in Sunday’s Gold Medal Game. 

Team USA was dominant in their four pool play games, scoring 99 goals and allowing just 11. In the quarterfinal round, the USA downed Ireland 30-1 and kept the momentum in the semifinal round, defeating Australia 26-2. In the championship game, Team USA stayed perfect, finishing 7-0 en route to securing gold while handing Canada their first loss of the tournament. 

Park was just one of two current collegiate student-athletes on the team. She finished the tournament with two goals and one assist for Team USA. 

Wakefield was one of 11 athletes on Team USA to record 10 or more points, as she tallied six goals and five assists in the tournament.
