(Gilbert, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s cross country team earned the runner-up trophy on Friday at the Region I, Division I Championships on Friday at Crossroads Park.
The No. 11 ranked Aztecs claimed second place with a final team score of 33 points. All the team-scoring runners finished in the top 10. Central Arizona College took first place with 22 points and the College of Southern Nevada was third with 81 points.
Freshman Karlee Pope was the top Pima finisher as she claimed third place and finished the 5K (3.1 mile) race with a personal-record time of 19 minutes, 57.7 seconds.
Sophomore Alyssa Perez (Agua Fria HS) also set a new PR as she took fifth place with a time of 20:16.7.
Freshman Elizabeth Coppola (Pusch Ridge Christian Academy) crossed the finish line in sixth place with a time of 20:39.0 while sophomore Mariah Cruz (Mountain View HS) claimed ninth place at 21:02.2.
Freshman Elexia Aragon (Flowing Wells HS) rounded out the top 10 as finished at 21:19.3.
The Aztecs will close out the 2024 cross country season at the NJCAA Division I National Championships on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Pole Green Park in Richmond, VA.
