(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (12-1, 11-1 in ACCAC) picked up its fifth straight win on Tuesday as it hosted Mesa Community College (6-5-1) at the West Campus Aztec Field.
The No. 4 ranked Aztecs defeated the Thunderbirds 4-1. The Aztecs have outscored their opponents 32-1 over the last five games. They beat Mesa 2-0 on Sept. 3 on the road.
Sophomores Missael Montilla (Tucson Magnet HS) and Jacob Lund-Iversen each scored two goals in the contest. Montilla put Pima on the scoreboard in the 27th minute and helped secure the win with another goal in the 66th minute.
Lund-Iversen scored back-to-back goals in the first half. He put the Aztecs up 2-0 with his goal in the 29thminute and found the back of the net 10 minutes later in the 39th minute. The Aztecs led 3-0 at halftime.
Freshman Robert Castaneda (Nogales HS) finished the match with two assists. He set up Lund-Iversen and Montilla for their second goals. Sophomore Ismael Ruiz (Tucson Magnet HS) and D’Andre Pickett (Tucson Magnet HS) each had assists in the game.
Joseph Rodriguez scored Mesa’s goal in the 59th minute.
The Aztecs finished with 14 shots on goal and held the Thunderbirds to two for the game. Sophomore Jose Carlos Ortiz (Barca Academy) closed it out with two saves.
The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Aztec Field on Saturday when they host GateWay Community College. They will also celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the 1999 team that advanced to the NJCAA Division I National Championship game.
