(Glendale, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (15-1, 14-1 in ACCAC) picked up a big road win on Saturday at Glendale Community College (9-4-2) as it sets up a big showdown next weekend at the West Campus Aztec Field to close the regular season.
The No. 4 ranked Aztecs defeated the No. 20 Gauchos 2-1 for their eighth straight victory. Pima swept the head-to-head meetings with Glendale during the regular season as they won the first matchup 3-0 on Sept. 14 at the West Campus Aztec Field.
Sophomore Ismael Ruiz (Tucson Magnet HS) scored the eventual game-winner in the 46th minute with an assist from fellow sophomore Jacob Lund-Iversen.
The Aztecs got on the board when sophomore Missael Montilla (Tucson Magnet HS) scored on his shot in the 9th minute. Freshman Eythan Mancilla (Sunnyside HS) had the assist.
The Gauchos tied the game at 1-1 in the 32nd minute on a goal by Johnny Gomez.
The Aztecs finished with 11 shots on goal and sophomore Jose Carlos Ortiz (Barca Academy) closed out the game with two saves.
The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Aztec Field next Saturday, Oct. 26 when they host Phoenix College to close out the regular season. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. The Aztecs suffered their only lost of the season to the Bears in a 2-1 contest on Sept. 21 in Phoenix.
