Ismael Ruiz and Jose Carlos Ortiz sweep the ACCAC Division II Player/Goalkeeper of the Week awards

(Tucson, AZ)  Pima Community College men’s soccer players Ismael Ruiz (Tucson Magnet HS) and Jose Carlos Ortiz (Barca Academy) earned recognition from the ACCAC conference for their performances on the field during the week of Sept. 22-28.

Ruiz, a sophomore midfielder/forward was named ACCAC Division II Player of the Week while Ortiz, a sophomore goalkeeper was selected ACCAC Division II Goalie of the Week.

The Aztecs secured two shutout victories over Scottsdale Community College and the College of Southern Nevada (ACCAC Division I program) by a combined score of 15-0.

Ruiz scored three goals and had one assist. He had one goal and one assist against the Artichokes and two goals against the Coyotes.

Ruiz has played in all 11 games so far this season and leads the ACCAC with 31 points, and is tied with teammate Jacob Lund-Iversen for the most assists in the conference with nine. Ruiz leads the team with 11 goals scored.

Ortiz finished with four saves in Pima’s shutout win over the College of Southern Nevada. He has played in eight games; making six starts protecting the net. He has given up six goals (0.92 GAA) and has 16 saves with a percentage of .727.

The Aztecs earned their seventh shutout victory on Tuesday after beating Chandler-Gilbert Community College 9-0. They play an afternoon match on Saturday at Paradise Valley Community College. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m.
