(La Verne, CA) The Park University Gilbert women’s soccer team (3-10-3, 2-7-3) defeated the Life Pacific University Warriors (1-14-1, 1-10-1), Saturday morning on the road in in La Verne, California.
The day was won by the Buccaneers’ offense, who got off 18 shots turning three into scores. Two of which, came off a pair of their 10 total corner kicks in the match.
Senior defender Ashlynn Jones netted the opening goal in the 15th minute to put the Bucs up 1-0, off a pass from senior forward Emma Alvarez.
Life Pacific got on the board shortly after with a goal from junior forward Brianna Figueroa in the 28th minute.
Nearly seven minutes into the second half of action, a corner kick from senior forward Dani Mares set up a score for Taliyah Parker to put the Bucs up 2-1.
Another corner kick, from Bucs junior defender Alicia Ypina in the 77th minute, set up their third goal of the morning when junior defender Katelynn Harris found the back of the net.
A physical match began to brew as both teams started to rack up fouls and yellow cards in the second half. Park-Gilbert had 13 fouls, two yellow cards, and one red card. Life Pacific recorded 14 fouls, one yellow card and two red cards.
The Bucs out shot the Warriors 18 to six on the day, and junior goalkeeper Morgan Trail recorded three saves.
Park-Gilbert women’s soccer returns to the pitch this Thursday, Oct. 31 at 5:30 p.m. MST, when they host Benedictine University Mesa at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Arizona.
