Bucs Volleyball falls in Four Sets to Life Pacific

(Mesa, AZ)  The Park University Gilbert volleyball team dropped a Saturday afternoon contest to Life Pacific University 3-1 (25-23, 12-25, 20-25, 19-25) at Arizona Athletic Grounds. The Bucs drop to 5-9 overall and 1-9 in GSAC play.

Coming off of their first conference win the previous night, the Bucs were brimming with confidence and it showed in the first set as the Bucs jumped out to a 5-0 lead. LPU answered with an 8-0 run of its own and had a five-point lead at 19-9 before the Park returned the favor with a 10-5 run to tie the set at 19-all. The Buccaneers would win six of the next 10 points to take a 1-0 lead. Park had 13 kills to 12 for LPU in the set.

Life Pacific, who beat Park in straight sets back in September, came out focused in the second set and put 14 kills on the board with only two errors as they jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the set and never looked back as they took set two 25-12. The Bucs only had seven kills and committed six errors in the stanza.

Sets three and four had a similar refrain as Life Pacific jumped out to 10-4 leads in both sets. In both cases they could not overcome the deficit and fell 20 and 19 in the final two frames.

Mallory Turner had another spectacular game with 13 kills and only one error as she hit .500. She also posed three service aces. For the weekend, Turner posted 33 kills and hit .569 for the two matches. She also had five blocks and eight digs over the two days.

Kyla Knight added eight kills and Keep Williams seven while hitting .333. Taylor Van Winkle had 23 digs giving her back to back games with 20-plus digs. Daniella Miranda-Johnson added 18 assists and three aces.

The Bucs hit the road for two games in the middle of next week as the travel to Riverside, Calif., for a non-conference tilt with La Sierra on Tuesday, October 29 at 5 p.m. followed by conference play against The Master’s on Wednesday, October 30 at 6 p.m.
