(Gilbert, AZ)  The Park University Gilbert women’s soccer team (2-7-3, 1-4-3) tied their home match 1-1 against the Ottawa University Arizona Spirit (5-4-3, 3-3-2), Saturday evening at Desert Sky Park in Gilbert, Ariz.

The Buccaneers fought valiantly in this closely contested match against the No. 23 program in the NAIA.

After nearly half an hour of scoreless soccer, OUAZ midfielder Brooke Bentley found the back of the net off an assist from forward Amanda Witkowski in the 29thminute.

Park-Gilbert responded late in the match when forward and captain Emma Alvarez scored the equalizer in the 86th minute, with forward Dani Mares assisting on the play.

The Bucs offense took a total of six shots, four of which were on goal. Their five corner kicks on the night set up solid offensive possessions and scoring chances. OUAZ took 10 shots, and Bucs goalkeeper Morgan Trail saved five of the six shots on goal.

Buccaneers women’s soccer returns to the pitch Thursday, Oct. 17, at 5:30 p.m. MST, when they face off at home against another in-conference foe, The Master’s (9-3-0, 6-2-0), at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Arizona.
