(Mesa, AZ) The Park University Gilbert men’s soccer team (4-4-3, 2-2-3) lost on the road against the Benedictine University Mesa Redhawks (4-5-1, 3-2-1), Thursday night at Chandler-Gilbert Community College in Mesa, Ariz.
This tight match between GSAC rivals concluded in a 2-1 loss for the Buccaneers after Redhawks forward Carlos Barraza scored the match-winning goal in the 86th minute.
The Bucs scored their lone goal of the night roughly five minutes into play, off a shot from senior defenseman Sam Fowles. An own goal in the 30th minute then tied things 1-1.
An offensively aggressive first half led to seven shots on goal from Park-Gilbert and BENU, 11 and nine shots respectively.
Bucs goalkeeper, sophomore Nicklas Lagesen, recorded five saves on the night.
Both squads recorded over 11 fouls in what turned into a physical, contested match. The Buccaneers totaled 17 shots on the night, while BENU totaled 22.
The Bucs return to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 5:30 p.m. MST, when they host the OUAZ Spirit at Desert Sky Park in Gilbert, Arizona.
