(Mesa, AZ) The Park University Gilbert men’s soccer team (5-4-4, 3-2-4) defeated the Master’s University (6-5-2, 6-1-2) at home 2-1, Thursday night at Arizona Athletic Grounds.
The Buccaneers stunned a Mustangs team sitting atop the Great Southwest Athletic Conference standings, handing The Master’s its first conference loss of the regular season.
After going down 1-0 early, off a goal from Mustangs forward Adiel Kaduya in the 25th minute, Park-Gilbert rallied back in the second half with two goals from junior midfielder Havard Brynie.
Brynie got the Bucs on the scoreboard nearly two minutes into the second half, with midfielder Albin Sundholmassisting on the play.
In the 68th minute, a Mustangs goal was taken off the board due to an offsides call.
The match stayed tied 1-1 for nearly 16 minutes, when Brynie found the back of the net again in the 84thminute off an assist from forward IIan Rodriguez-Roda.
The Buccaneers’ offense took 14 shots to the Mustang’s 13. Both squads had five shots on goal. Bucs goalkeeper Nicklas Lagesen recorded three saves and Mustangs goalkeeper Julian Graham recorded four saves.
The Park University Gilbert men’s soccer team returns to the pitch this Saturday, Oct. 19 at 8:00 p.m. MST, when they hit the road to take on Embry-Riddle (4-4-5, 4-2-3) at Varsity Field in Prescott, Arizona.
