(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s soccer team (11-3) closed out the regular season on Saturday at the West Campus Aztec Field.
The No. 8 ranked Aztecs scored late in the second half but couldn’t recover from an early deficit as they fell to No. 5 Phoenix College 2-1. The Aztecs dropped both of their regular season meetings with the Bears (14-1-1, 13-1) as they fell 2-1 in Phoenix on Sept. 21.
The Aztecs got on the board in the 80th minute when sophomore Lizzie Walker (Canyon del Oro HS) cut the deficit in half with her header goal that was cross assisted by fellow sophomore Jessica Alvarez (Tucson Magnet HS).
The Bears maintained a 2-0 lead for much of the game. Chloe Corral put Phoenix College on the board in the 4th minute. Carmen Coronado scored their second goal in the 17th minute.
The Aztecs finished with three shots on goal for the game. Freshman Phoebe Knisley (Canyon del Oro HS) had five saves in the first half and fellow freshman Brooke Valencia (Sabino HS) had two saves in the second half.
The Aztecs will be the No. 3 seed in the Region I, Division II Tournament and will play at No. 2 Scottsdale Community College on Friday, Nov. 1 in the semifinal round. Game time is TBA.
