(Glendale, AZ) The Arizona Rattlers announce the return of three-time IFL MVP quarterback, Drew Powell, for his fifth season in the desert. The Rattlers are focused on building toward another run for the IFL National Championship.
Powell’s contribution to the Rattler’s success in the 2023 season, helped the team claim the top seed in the Western Conference with a 13-3 record. His standout performance earned him the IFL Offensive Player of the Year award. The offense flourished under Powell, as the team ranked at the top of the league in several categories, including passing yards (2,630) and touchdowns (63). On the ground, Powell contributed an additional 734 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns, showcasing the balanced offensive threat the Rattlers are known for.
The Rattlers thrived with Powell under center, achieving historic seasons in both 2021 and 2022 when Powell led the team to back-to-back MVP campaigns. During the 2021 season, the Rattlers finished with a 12-2 record and secured the IFL’s top seed. That year, Powell’s remarkable 81 total touchdowns (43 rushing, 38 passing) set new franchise records for rushing TDs and rushing yards, further solidifying the team’s dominance in the league.
From joining the Rattlers mid-season in 2019 to 2023, Powell has played a critical role in the team’s 31-5 regular-season record, four playoff victories, and two United Bowl appearances. His consistent play-making ability, combined with the team’s strong defense and cohesive unit, has positioned Arizona as a perennial championship contender.
Originally from Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Powell attended Livingstone College before making waves in the IFL. His first MVP award came in 2018 with the Iowa Barnstormers before becoming the face of the Rattlers. Since joining the Rattlers, his legacy has only grown stronger, but the focus remains on the team’s collective success.
