This Week in Big 12 Football – Week Five

  • Half of the completed games in Big 12 play (7 of 14) have been decided by one score.

  • The top two Power 4 rushing performances in week five hailed from the Big 12 with K-State’s DJ Giddens totaling 187 yards, the most in a Big 12 conference game this season, and Texas Tech’s Tahj Brooks running for 172. K-State also led the Power 4 with 300 team rushing yards in Week five.

  • The Conference has six of the top 20 players in FBS in rushing yards per game this season, more than any other conference. (TTU’s Tahj Brooks fourth, UCF’s RJ Harvey sixth, K-State’s DJ Giddens eighth, Utah’s Micah Bernard 13th, ASU’s Cam Skattebo 14th and KU’s Devin Neal 20th).

  • Big 12 programs are 17-6 this season when ranked in the Top 25.

  • This week’s AP Poll ranks four Big 12 teams with Iowa State, BYU, Utah and K-State all voted in the top 20.

  • Seven different Big 12 wide receivers rank in the top 25 in FBS in receptions through week five with no other conference having more than four.

  • Five of the top 12 nationally in passing yards are Big 12 quarterbacks (TCU’s Josh Hoover, CU’s Shedeur Sanders, OSU’s Alan Bowman, UC’s Brendan Sorsby and TTU’s Behren Morton).

  • CU’s Shedeur Sanders, TCU’s Josh Hoover and Texas Tech’s Behren Morton have all thrown 14 touchdowns this season, which ties for fourth in FBS.

  • The Big 12 Conference leads all FBS conferences in 100-yard receiving performances with 37 through the first five weeks of the season.

  • Travis Hunter is the first player since K-State’s Kevin Lockett in 1996 to have 9+ receptions and an interception in a Big 12 Conference game.

  • After five weeks, 11 Big 12 teams rank in the top 50 of average attendance.

Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell became the winningest coach in program history with the Cyclones’ win on Saturday.
