Navarro and Garate each net two goals as (15) Women’s Soccer scores seven to trounce Mesa CC

(Mesa, AZ)  The Pima Community College women’s soccer team (4-0) remained undefeated on Tuesday as it played at Mesa Community College (2-2) in an ACCAC conference road match.

The No. 15 ranked Aztecs added insurance late in the first half and scored five goals in the second half to beat the Thunderbirds 7-0.

Freshman Kristal Navarro (Tucson Magnet HS) scored two late goals in the 87th and 89th minutes to help secure the victory. Navarro also provided the first assist of the game on fellow freshman Samantha Mendez’s (Tucson Magnet HS) goal in the 3rd minute.

Garate scored two goals as she put the Aztecs up 2-0 with her shot from 35-yards out with less than a minute left in the first half. She scored again in the 83rd minute to make it 5-0 with an assist from sophomore Viviana Sanchez (Tucson Magnet HS).

Sophomore Camila Razcon (Marana HS) found the back of the net in the 51st minute with a shot inside the box putting Pima up 3-0 in the 51st minute. Freshman Ashley Martinez (Sunnyside HS) made it 4-0 with her shot just outside the box. It was assisted by Mendez.

The Aztecs finished the game with 19 shots on goal. Freshman Brooke Valencia (Sabino HS) had five saves in 60th minutes of play. Fellow freshman Phoebe Knisley (Canyon del Oro HS) was in the net for the final 30 minutes as she had two saves.

The Aztecs play GateWay Community College on Saturday. The game will take place at Mesa Community College at 8:00 p.m.
