(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (8-1) got back on track in a big way on Tuesday against Scottsdale Community College (3-5-1).
The No. 4 ranked Aztecs scored five goals in the second half and earned their fifth shutout win of the season after blanking the Artichokes 7-0.
Sophomore Jose Luis Martin Montealegre scored two goals in the contest. He put the Aztecs on the board in the 27th minute with an assist from D’Andre Pickett (Tucson Magnet HS). He scored his second goal in the 68thminute to make it 4-0. Freshman Florian Traebert provided the assist.
Sophomore Jacob Lund-Iversen also scored twice for the Aztecs as he scored in the 29th minute with an assist from sophomore Brandon Sanchez (Canyon del Oro HS) and drove in the final goal off a penalty kick in the 81stminute.
Traebert and sophomore Ismael Ruiz (Tucson Magnet HS) each had a goal and an assist. Ruiz made it 5-0 with his goal in the 78th minute. He provided the assist to Traebert on his goal two minutes later.
Freshman Jay Hogan was the other goal scorer for the Aztecs as he converted on his shot in the 50th minute. It was assisted by sophomore Albert Aguirre (Salpointe Catholic HS).
The Aztecs outshot the Artichokes 14-4 for the game. Freshman Alex Cristerna Oleta (Tucson Magnet HS) finished the game with four saves.
The Aztecs have won both meetings with the Artichokes as they earned a 4-1 decision to open the season on Aug. 25.
The Aztecs will step away from ACCAC Division II play and face off against the College of Southern Nevada on Thursday in a non-conference match at 7:00 p.m. The Coyotes joined ACCAC Division I competition this season.
