(Mesa, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (5-0) continued its stellar start to the season as it earned its third straight shutout victory on Saturday.
The No. 4 ranked Aztecs defeated GateWay Community College 5-0. The game was played at Mesa Community College. The Aztecs have played four of their first five games on the road this season.
Sophomore Ismael Ruiz (Tucson Magnet HS) put the Aztecs up 2-0 early in the first half as he netted goals in the 6th and 8th minutes. Sophomore Jacob Lund-Iversen and freshman Robert Castaneda (Nogales HS) provided the respected assists.
Sophomore Missael Montilla (Tucson Magnet HS) made it 3-0 with his goal in the 16th minute as Castaneda provided his second assist of the game.
Freshman Eythan Mancilla (Sunnyside HS) scored Pima’s fourth goal of the first half in the o41st minute that was assisted by freshman Jay Hogan.
Freshman Florian Traebert drove in the final goal of the game in the 60th minute. Sophomore Nico Valenzuela (Salpointe Catholic HS) had the assist.
The Aztecs had 19 shots on goal and held the Geckos to three for the game. Sophomore Jose Carlos Ortiz (Barca Academy) finished the game with three saves.
The Aztecs return to the West Campus Aztec Field on Tuesday when they host South Mountain Community College. The teams are on the pitch at 6:00 p.m.
