(Pasadena, CA)  The Park University Gilbert (0-2-0) men’s soccer team fell just short Friday afternoon, losing 1-0 to the Caltech Beavers (1-0-0) on the road in Pasadena.

The Buccaneers kept this non-conference contest interesting throughout both halves, with 17 shots and nine corner kicks to show for it. Four of those shots were on goal, three of which coming from junior midfielder Havard Brynie.

While these offensive opportunities didn’t convert into any goals, both teams entered the locker room at halftime scoreless.

Caltech, an NCAA Division III school, then netted the lone goal of the match early in the second half. Beavers forward Jack Myles scored in the 54th minute off an assist from midfielder Ethan Feng.

Despite allowing the only goal of the afternoon, it was a solid showing for Bucs goalkeeper Zac Stephenson. The junior, making his 2024 season debut between the goalposts, stopped five of Caltech’s six shots on goal Friday afternoon.

Park Gilbert men’s soccer returns to play on Sept. 5 against La Sierra University (1-0-0). The Bucs will travel back on the road to California, seeking their first win of the 2024 regular season.
