Brandon Sanchez has a hat trick as #4 Men’s Soccer nets 11 goals to stifle South Mountain CC

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (6-0) fell behind early in its game against South Mountain Community College (1-3-1) but bounced back to take control.

The No. 4 ranked Aztecs scored six goals in the first half and five in the second half to beat the Cougars 11-2 to remain undefeated.

The Cougars scored the first goal of the game when Oscar Jimenez-Hernandez converted on a shot in the 2ndminute. The Aztecs went on to score eight unanswered goals.

Sophomore Brandon Sanchez (Canyon del Oro HS) scored three straight goals in the 5th minute, 30th and 35thminutes as he helped put the Aztecs ahead 5-1. Sophomore Jacob Lund-Iversen scored his shot with 1.5 seconds left in the first half to make it 6-1 at halftime.

Sophomore Nico Valenzuela (Salpointe Catholic HS) came off the bench to net two goals in the 49th and 70thminutes. Sophomore Mateo Soto (Tucson Magnet HS) scored a goal in each half.

Sophomore Ismael Ruiz (Tucson Magnet HS) had three assists in the first half while freshman Emilio Guena-Parra had two assists in the second half. Freshman Jay Hogan scored a goal and had an assist as part of the second half.

The Aztecs finished with 23 shots on goal and the Cougars had four for the game. Freshman Alex Cristerna Oleta (Tucson Magnet HS) finished with one save. Sophomore Jose Carlos Ortiz (Barca Academy) played the second half and had no saves.

The Aztecs are back at the West Campus Aztec Field on Saturday when they host No. 16 ranked Glendale Community College. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
